Restless Habitat

We are working on our new project. I have spent the week at the loom playing with a new product, (fluorescent light). It has many possibilities and I am looking at it in the context of illuminating the interior or what's inside the structure(ie: tent, yurt etc). All cultures and peoples need light to exist, many carry the light with them and many rely on the sun and the moon to reside or navigate the earths surface. If you are nomadic how do you light your habitat at darkness, during a storm, or even long winter nights. What has tradition in a particular culture got to do with modern times? How do these cultures deal with the 21st century and live in harmony with both worlds?

Hi to the site bloggers for Fybermotion. I like to drop into this site to catch up with your progress, partly also to see the involvement Belinda has in it, being a ex-co-art-colleague.

It's nice to drop in from Switzerland and to have the visual of your progress posted up.

Illumination and light: walking under the JURA mountain after snow when its full moon and watching your shadow...thinking about old movies that used to put a purple or dark blue film over the day movie to give you the feel of night...watching my "shadow" a dense nonlit hole accentuated by the light around it.

Fibre motion, fluorescent light in weave, cloth and textile...exciting stuff, creative possibilities and many possibilities for fun. Does it illuminate or overshadow?

...

lovely.
